Pop princess Selena Gomez premiered the music video for her comeback single "Lose You to Love Me" on Oct. 23. She lets go of a toxic relationship in the black-and-white clip.
"Lose You to Love Me" is Gomez's first single since dabbing in Latin music last year on DJ Snake's "Taki Taki" and Tainy and Benny Blanco's "I Can't Get Enough." She returns to pop with the help of longtime co-writers Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter while working for the first time with Billie Eilish's brother and collaborator, Finneas.
The empowering ballad plays out like a sequel to 2014's "The Heart Wants What it Wants." Instead of further surrendering herself to a bad romance, Gomez decides to break things off to protect her own well-being. "I needed to lose you to find me," she sings over piano and haunting strings. Moving on is not easy and Gomez makes that known in a vulnerable performance. Her strength found in the struggle is heavenly and she sounds all the better for it.
The music video for "Lose You to Love Me" was shot on the new iPhone 11 phone. Gomez looks stunning as she sings and stares into her vanity. The highs and lows of the relationship are shown in her face as she takes us on that emotional rollercoaster. It's a beautifully simple clip where Gomez comes to grips with reality and her self-worth.
"Lose You to Love Me" is now available on all streaming platforms. Apparently, Gomez will release another single this week titled "Look at Her Now." Both will preview her follow-up to 2015's Revival album.
