After going through a very public split with her husband Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus is seemingly speaking on the situation with her new single "Slide Away." The surprise release sees the pop star disenchanted with a relationship that once meant everything to her.

"Slide Away" is Cyrus' first new single since returning to music earlier this year with the EP She is Coming. After getting married last December, Miley announced last Saturday that she had separated from Australian actor Hemsworth. The media has been fully invested in the split and reporting that heavy drinking and "use of certain drugs" is what was a deal breaker for Cyrus while the other side of the story is that Cyrus' alleged infidelity led to the separation. Both parties vehemently deny the claims. However, Miley is seemingly opening up about things on this unannounced single.

"Slide Away" has the same title as the songs by classic U.K. groups Oasis and The Verve. The soaring strings on Cyrus' revealing tune give it the vibes of those bands too. The cover art for the single features pills and bottles of booze floating in a swimming pool, which could be alluding to the claims against Hemsworth. Miley's lyrics appear to be about their relationship's demise. "Once upon a time, it was made for us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust," she sings. Her words are more pointed as the song goes on. "Move on, we're not seventeen / I'm not who I used to be," she adds. The couple met around that age as co-stars in 2009 Nicholas Sparks movie The Last Song.

Cyrus' 2013 smash "Wrecking Ball" was thought to be about the first time that she and Hemsworth split, so this could be the sequel. Instead of slamming into the situation, though, "Slide Away" is more of a reflective realization that things aren't working out. The heartbreak is still very tangible in Cyrus' voice, but instead of fueling her emotions, it gives her the power to move on. "Slide Away" sounds like a subtle moment compared to the rest of Miley's catalog, but it stands out as one of her most raw and realest releases.

"Slide Away" is now available on iTunes and Apple Music. Cyrus' next single is a collaboration with pop superstars Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey. The three ladies recorded a song for the upcoming Charlie's Angels movie reboot that is due out in November.
