In a recent interview Mexican pop queen Paulina Rubio said that she will leak the music video for "Dame Más (Afterparty)." The dance cut from the deluxe edition of her Deseo album could work perfectly in today's pop landscape, but it's property of her old record label that she severed ties with last year.
In an interview with Mexican model Alejandra Espinoza on Univision's El Break de Las 7, Rubio revealed there is a music video for the fan favorite track "Dame Más (Afterparty)" from last year's Deseo album reissue. "Dame Más" means "Give Me More." Last summer, Rubio parted ways with her label Universal Music Latin and that appeared to put the kibosh on her plans to put the song out as a single.
"I have the music video finished," Rubio said in Spanish. "Because of things outside my control - it always seems like we have the last word, but a lot of times it's not that way. 'Dame Más' has a video that I will leak and put out there. My fans have been asking me to release the video and I'll gift it to them at some point."
For the reissue of Deseo, Rubio kicked things off with her cover of the pop-rock tune "Ya No Me Engañas" by Spanish boy band AURYN. Following that release, she was heavily teasing "Dame Más" as the next single on her social media. Rubio's later split from Universal led her to release music outside of Deseo independently.
With disco-influenced pop taking center stage at the moment with big hits by artists like The Weeknd and Dua Lipa, "Dame Más" was ahead that curve and it still has the potential to smash as Rubio's next club anthem. Embracing an '80s synth-pop edge, Paulina puts the petal to the medal on her dreamy yet devilish desires. "I have a perverted dress so that you can take it off slowly until it falls to the ground," she sings in Spanish. The chorus feels like a rush with a reggaeton beat drop as Rubio pleas for a night of pleasure. "El afterparty / It's on your body," she adds in the song's few words of English. "Dame Más" is a stunning and sexy dance track that will leave you wanting more.
With Deseo in custody of Universal, Rubio has moved on with self-released singles like "Si Supieran" and "De Qué Sirve" (one of our picks for the best songs of 2019). In that same interview, she announced the single that she recorded with Dominican artist Maffio should be coming soon. Rubio is currently promoting her rising hit "Tú y Yo" with Mexican DJ Raymix.
She also said her planned Versus Tour with Alejandra Gúzman was cancelled, calling la reina del rock "bien loquis," or "very crazy." With Rubio saying she will leak the video for "Dame Más," there's speculation that she was behind the leak of her Gúzman collaboration "Ni Tú Ni Nadie." Paulina has been speaking affectionately about her former Timbiriche bandmate Thalía, leading to rumors that the two icons might team up for a joint tour of their own after the Coronavirus (or COVID-19) pandemic has passed.
